About Giclee

About GicleeGiclee (zhee-dlay)

The word Giclée (zhee-clay) is derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".

Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates or mediums, the most common being watercolour paper or canvas. The giclée printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.  Giclée prints are now widely shown and distributed throughout the world.  The main reasons for the acceptance of the Giclée print and its notable growth is its quality. Artists are immediately taken with the look and feel of the Giclée because of the use of archival stock and its rich colors.

Advantages

Advantages are many.  One of the tremendous advantages of giclee printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.  Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do.  The Giclée process gives fade & color shift resistance.   Due to the printing being done directly onto artists' substrate of canvas, the prints can be hand enhanced by the artist to create a truly unique print. The high quality of Giclées in reproducing originals, their attractive price point and small edition numbers have made Giclées an attractive purchase for the discerning buyer.

Almost Original

Each giclee print on this site is different from each other in that the artist finishes each print with added brush strokes after the printing is done.  Therefore each painting is unique.  They are not machine enhanced which produce identical prints. Each giclee print here is "embellished", "enhanced" or otherwise "personalized" by the artist herself, adding to the value of the print for the consumer.  An additional attraction for giclee is the availability of custom sizing to meet customer needs.  It makes these giclee prints of unusually small edition numbers very valuable acquisitions at a fraction of the price of original paintings
